IMPORTANT FYI - UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

As of Monday, 5/18 - we have cats at the Batavia Petco available for adoption. You can stop in during Petco business hours and fill out an adoption application. Volunteers will be in each day to review applications and contact potential adopters.

We are excited to announce that as of May 11, 2026, a major renovation project has officially begun at the Genesee County Animal Shelter. While we look forward to the improvements this will bring to our facility, we anticipate several challenges during the construction phase. We truly appreciate your continued support and patience as we navigate this transition.

Throughout the project, we expect the front lobby and cat area to remain open to the public, and the procedure for visiting our cats will remain unchanged. However, please note that as of May 18, 2026, dogs will no longer be housed on-site at the shelter.

To meet any of our adoptable dogs, you will now be required to make an appointment. You can schedule a visit by calling 585-343-6410 (option 7) or by stopping by the shelter during regular adoption hours to speak with an Animal Control Officer or a volunteer. If you visit in person to inquire about a dog, we will assist you in scheduling a meet-and-greet for a later time.

As with any construction project, we anticipate changes to the schedule and public access to the Shelter. We will attempt to keep you updated via our website and Facebook page.

Additionally, due to serious storage constraints during construction, we are limiting our donations to a temporary "Construction Wish List."
